A Brief History of the Shrine of Saint Joseph
The Shrine of Saint Joseph was founded in 1924 by Father Thomas Augustine Judge, C.M., a Vincentian priest and founder of the Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity (Trinity Missions). Born to Irish immigrants in South Boston and ordained in 1899, Fr. Judge devoted his life to caring for the poor, strengthening the Church, and forming the laity. He believed that every Catholic is an apostle of Christ, called to live and share the Gospel in daily life.
Inspired by the faith of immigrant families arriving in America, Fr. Judge envisioned the Shrine as a sacred place where people could encounter renewal, healing, and hope, and be sent forth to live the missionary spirit wherever they are. Today, owned and operated by Trinity Missions, the Shrine continues to welcome all as a place of God’s presence, peace, prayer, and mission.

Oratory of Saint Joseph
All are welcome to visit the Oratory of St. Joseph, featuring the beautiful mosaic on the Life of Saint Joseph. The mosaic was designed around 100 years ago by Austrian artist Leopold Forstner. The images depict five important times in the life of St. Joseph. The space is simple and allows for a focused time of prayer to God in reflecting on St. Joseph and his “yes” to God. Through St. Joseph, we hear of his obedience to God, “and he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him.” - Matthew 1:24. God calls us all in a special way to participate in the building of His kingdom here on earth.
